As all of us navigate these unprecedented times, we face numerous challenges to our health and wellbeing. At Special Needs Companies, we hope to assist you and your family by offering accurate information and resources.
For example, all adults and children may be eligible for Economic Impact Payments (Payments) from the Federal government through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). That means $1,200 for adults and $500 for qualifying dependents.
Recipients of Supplemental Security Income and of Social Security disability, survivor or retirement benefits will receive automatic Payments. Generally, the Payments will be made by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as SSI or Social Security benefits would normally be delivered. The difference is that funds will come from the Treasury Department, not the Social Security Administration.
People with dependent children and those who use Direct Express debit cards will need to take additional steps in order to claim Payments for children under 17.
Go to the Internal Revenue Service website to provide information about you and your qualifying children.
The Social Security Administration will not consider Economic Impact Payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.
