The Federal Bureau of Investigation, in conjunction with other federal and state agencies, in an ongoing effort has brought charges against over 250 subjects who financially victimized over one million elderly Americans for over $600 million dollars. The announcement was made on February 22, 2018.

Schemes and methods included investment frauds, reverse mortgage scams, lottery telephone scams, romance scams, grandparent scams, and IRS imposter scams.

Besides professional victimizers, the cases included outright theft by trusted persons such as the victims’ attorney, financial advisor, guardians, and caregivers.
